OREANDA-NEWS. July 21, 2009. A regular meeting between the leaders of the two countries, who established the cordial and sincere personal relations, is to be another step to develop the traditionally friendly intergovernmental relations which have been filled with a new content in recent years. That is proved by the agreements reached during the official visit of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in Romania a year ago. In Bucharest the sides reaffirmed the willingness and firm intent to enhance full-scale cooperation in both bilateral and multilateral formats. In this regard partnership with this country that became a full member of the European Union in 2007 is viewed in the light of the dialogue with the EU that is a priority of Turkmenistan’s foreign policy strategy.

These factors taken together to a larger extent determine the positive tone of the upcoming top level talks in Ashgabat, success of which is based on the mutual interest and profound potential for partnership. It is expected that the agreements, which will be secured by the important bilateral documents to be signed upon concluding the talks, will attach a new quality and dynamics to Turkmen-Romanian cooperation covering almost all the basic sector of the national economies, in particular oil and gas industry, transport, agriculture.

As is known, to date Turkmenistan and Romania have signed 18 international documents at the interstate, intergovernmental and interdepartmental levels. According these documents the Embassy of Romania is opened in Turkmenistan, the countries intensify trade and economic contacts with every passing year.

According to the Ministry of Economy and Development of Turkmenistan, as of July 1, 2009 8 projects totally amounted to US\\$ 43.09 million implemented in collaboration with the Romanian businessmen particularly in the oil and gas sector were registered in the territory of Turkmenistan. 4 enterprises with the share of the Romanian capital including the branches and representative offices of the well-known Romanian companies were registered.
