OREANDA-NEWS. On 30 July 2009 was announced, that multipurpose atomic submarine “Kazan” of project Yasen-M was laid at Sevmash.

A solemn ceremony was held in the main slipways shop of the enterprise where atomic submarine “Severodvinsk” is being built.

Head submarine of “Yasen” project (project designer is ОАО “SPB IPB “Malakhit”) was laid at Sevmash in December 1993, and as recently informed Deputy Chief of Russian Navy Vice Admiral O. Burtsev, should be taken into service in 2011. According to the Naval Doctrine of the Russian Federation, submarines of this project shall be major multipurpose atomic submarines of Russia in future.

Atomic submarine “Kazan” will become the upgraded continuation of Yasen project. The improvements relate to the replacement of electronic weapons systems components, as well as the transferring to equipment and materials of Russian production, excluding suppliers from former Soviet republics.

In the history of Russian Navy administration of Kazan city takes the patronage of the atomic submarine for the second time. Atomic submarine K-403 of project 667A built on Sevmash and transferred to the Navy in 1971, was named "Kazan" since 1997. In 2004, the ship was launched from the Navy and now is placed in the docking chamber of UC "Zvezdochka" for recycling. The administration of Kazan city appealed to the administration of Sevmash and Navy with a request to give the name of Tatarstan capital to the new submarine.

It was expected that the following persons take part in the solemn ceremony: Deputy Chief of Navy Vice Admiral N.Borisov, First Deputy Prime Minister of Tatarstan R. Muratov, General Director - General Designer of AO "SPB IPB" Malachite " V. Pyalov, Director General of OAO “PO “Sevmash” N. Kalistratov, representatives of the Navy and contractors.
