OREANDA-NEWS. On 31 July 2009 was announced, that Sibirtelecom OJSC will increase the speed of Internet traffic for schools in Krasnoyarsk Krai two times. It will be done in 111 village schools, mainly in Pirovky, Tyukhtetsky, Bogotolsky, Bolshemurtinsky regions, where the data transmission speed in Internet will be increased from 128 Kbyte/s to 256 Kbyte/s.

The double increase of the speed was caused by increasing demand in resources of the global network. Thus, a school in Norilsk set a peculiar record: the students and the teachers downloaded 20 Gbyte (with maximum possible download volume of 21 Gbyte per month, which means they were downloading information virtually 24 hours a day.

“We are observing a tendency of increasing Internet traffic in educational institutions, in particular, in village schools. It is explained by growing computer literacy of students and teachers and also by the need to expand the information field, - said Sergey Ivanov, Director of Krasnoyarsk Branch of Sibirtelecom OJSC. - Internet technologies play a very important role in education today. Knowing that, we try to satisfy the demand of the schools in high speed Internet access”.

Two years have passed since the moment the works of connecting schools of Krasnoyarsk Krai to Internet within the “Education” priority national project were completed. In 2007 Sibirtelecom OJSC provided broadband Internet access to 1228 schools. The minimum speed of connection was 128 Kbyte/s. At present Sibirtelecom renders Internet services to 1106 schools, 76 of them were connected with the help of Iskra Design Bureau using the satellite communication technology.
