OREANDA-NEWS. July 31, 2009. The Yug-2 Multipurpose transshipment complex in Ust-Luga port hosted a visiting working session of the Government of the Leningrad region under the direction of Governor V.P. Serdyukov. The session discussed the issue of the state of affairs and development of Ust-Luga sea merchant port.

The session was attended by the vice-presidents and chairmen of the regional government committees, executives of Ust-Luga Company OJSC, construction manager of Ust-Luga sea merchant port, and the Industrial-Construction Association OJSC, the general contractor of the construction.

In his address V.P. Serdyukov noted the great impact of Ust-Luga port on development of the national and regional economy and stressed the need to respond to the challenges faced both by Ust-Luga Company and all bodies of state power of the Leningrad region. "Today we have seen an actively working port and how much has already been done. But all of us still have to do a lot more. The port is being built and is developing and we need to take an active part in its development. By 2015 the port is to handle 150 mln. tons of cargo: oil, coal, general and bulked cargo", said the governor.

"Amid the crisis it is necessary to maintain the speed of construction of the port complex", stressed V. S. Izrailyt, Chairman of the Board of directors of Ust-Luga Company, in his report. "Because the port means new jobs that are so necessary now, tax contributions to budgets of all levels, new investment projects that are the things of the future of the region."

During the session Governor V.P. Serdyukov gave targeted assignments to heads of relevant committees and departments aimed at effective implementation of the concrete plan of further port development actions outlined by the session participants.
