OREANDA-NEWS. August 3, 2009. The construction works have been recently resumed on one of the most important facilities of the urban infrastructure in the capital of Turkmenistan. The Ukrainian company Interbudmontazh resumed implementing the project on construction of the unique drain and engineering tunnel that is of particular importance for rapidly developing Ashgabat.

This spring the Ukrainian builder suspended the project activities though the customer – Ashgabat Khyakimlik honoured the terms of the contract and made the many-million advance payments. The negotiation process with the Ukrainian contacts ended in a consensus through the firm, purposeful and constructive stand taken by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov who attaches paramount significance to implementation of the urban development programme in the Turkmen capital. The Ukrainian partners resumed construction of the tunnel. According to the Resolution of the President of Turkmenistan Ashgabat Khyakimlik is authorized to conclude the additional agreement with the Construction Association of Ukraine Interbudmontazh on terms of completion of construction in December 2010. Under the agreement the Ukrainian company is to perform necessary works to ensure the functioning of the tunnel.

To overestimate significance of this project is difficult. It is a part of the long-term programme that is ensure the modern parameters of the engineering and communication infrastructure in the capital, environmental wellbeing of the city and eventually create the conditions conducive to further dynamic development of Ashgabat and comfortable life of people. In fact, one more ‘floor’ of the city will be built underground with hundreds of metres of electric, telephone, water supply, sewage networks and drainage canals.

The contract with the Ukrainian partners provides for construction of the drain and engineering tunnel with two collector drains in Ashgabat and engineering infrastructure in Archabil Etrap and sewage disposal plants and end sides. The unprecedented project that has no analogues across the world will considerably decrease the drain water level in the capital, meet the international standards and address the issues impacting urban development for many years ahead.
