OREANDA-NEWS. On 03 August 2009 was announced, that a world-renown masterpiece of sacred lettering to beautify the Contemporary museum of calligraphy.

Director of the International exhibition of calligraphy Mr Alexey Shaburov came back from the Promised Land and brought a marvelous news: a unique artifact will beautify the museum’s collection. The rare art piece is the King Mezuzah created by a famous Hebrew calligrapher Avraham Borshevsky.

The biggest Mezuzah was recognized a national chef-d’oeuvre by spiritual authorities and leading academicians of Israel. It is the only contemporary Mezuzah registered by the World Records Book.

The sacred art work from Jerusalem has never been shown in Russia before. The King Mezuzah will be officially presented to the public at the solemn anniversary of the Contemporary museum of calligraphy. Special quests of the ceremony are renown politicians, diplomats, heads of cultural institutions, officials from the Cultural centre of Israel, famous calligraphers and journalists. The event will be held on August 14, 2009.

The King Mezuzah and all the other calligraphy masterpieces will drop their wraps from October 14 to Nove,ber 14, 2009 at the world’s largest calligraphy exhibition held in Moscow. The art creations are made by famous calligraphers from more than 30 countries – Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Israel, USA, Japan, Jordan, China, France, Italy, Germany, Australia, Brazil and many other).

The Mezuzah is a small case in which a small hand written scroll of parchment (called a klaf) is placed. The scroll contains the words of the "Shema Israel" (Deuteronomy 6:4-9) passage, in which God commands Jews to keep His words constantly in thier minds and in their hearts. The scroll also contains another passage (Deuteronomy 11:13). The passages are written in Hebrew, and contain 22 lines of 713 painstakingly written letters.

The meaning of the Hebrew word Mezuzah is simply "a doorpost". The meaning of the words "Shema Israel" is "Hear Israel".
