OREANDA-NEWS. August 05, 2009. In times when the business environment changes by the minute, employment law-related questions are becoming ever more important for struggling employers. To boost our readers’ awareness of major changes in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Belarus, the Sorainen Employment Law Legal Update overviews regional changes both implemented and on-going, as well as critical regional topics, reported the press-centre of Sorainen.

In Estonia, the Employment Contracts Act is undergoing massive reconstruction, giving employers more alternatives to remodel staff and terms of engagement on the basis of more balanced regulation and less compensation on termination, releasing the buckle on corporate liability, and tightening the belts on employee liability. Latvia is to implement the most extensive amendments to its Labour Law, aiming to combat illegal employment, to further explain some issues related to organisation of working time, and to simplify termination procedures. In Lithuania, too, liberalisation of labour laws is on-going, promising changes in collective agreement rules and working time regulation.

Karin Madisson, Sorainen partner and head of the regional Sorainen Employment team, remarks that legislative bodies in the Baltic area are trying to come to terms with the challenging market situation, easing the life of job providers.
