OREANDA-NEWS. On 11 August 2009 UC RUSAL, the world’s largest aluminium and alumina producer, announced that Oleg Deripaska, RUSAL’s CEO, visited Guinea during his tour of the company’s production facilities. As part of the Guinea visit the head of RUSAL had a series of meetings with the management of the company’s operations in Guinea and representatives of local communities.

During his visit, Oleg Deripaska discussed with the heads of the company’s Guinea-based facilities CBK and Friguia the results of the implementation of the group’s business plan and the programme of maximizing efficiency and reducing costs, which will enhance the competitiveness of RUSAL’s Guinean operations during the global economic downturn, as well as outlined the prospects of the operations in the future. The company’s CEO paid special attention to the introduction of the RUSAL business system, noting the achievements of CBK in this respect.

In addition to developing its production facilities, RUSAL also invests in strengthening social and economic stability in Guinea.  Therefore, the visit’s schedule included meetings with local communities. Oleg Deripaska met with local chiefs to discuss the priorities of the company’s social investments and the results of RUSAL’s programmes aimed at developing infrastructure, education, sports and environmental safety in Guinea.

RUSAL has been operating in Guinea since 2001.  The company owns bauxite and alumina complex Friguia and manages Compagnie des Bauxites de Kindia (CBK). RUSAL is one of the largest employers in the country providing jobs to over 3000 people. The company has invested about USD 400 mln in developing its business in Guinea.
