OREANDA-NEWS. August 17, 2009. According to the National Bank of Moldova, US419.89 million, or 81.5% of the total transfers were sent through the fast money transfer systems. 54.2% were sent in dollars, 40.8% - in euros and 5% - in the Russian rubles.

The largest amount was transferred in June - US 109.7 million and the lowest in January of this year - US 64.3 million. In I quarter of this year, remittances amounted to US 225.72 million, in the II quarter - US 289.31 million, respectively.

As it was previously reported, in 2008 the volume of remittances to Moldova from individuals from abroad through commercial banks amounted to US 1 billion 660.06 million, increasing by 36.3% as compared to the previous year.

The volume of remittances from the Moldovan labor migrants was steadily increasing till July 2008, but due to the global financial crisis began to reduce. The largest amounts were sent from Russia and Italy. According to the World Bank, the transfers of the Moldovan guest workers make up about one-third of the country's GDP.
