OREANDA-NEWS. Starting from 15 August and till 11 October, supported by Aizkraukles Banka, a unique exhibition by famous fashion historian Alexandre Vassiliev will take place in Riga Museum of Decorative Arts and Design (Skarnu 10/20), reported the press-centre of Aizkraukles Banka.

During the exhibition in Riga, Victorian men’s and women’s clothing, dresses, and accessories will be demonstrated. They are a part of the artist’s collection, which includes about 10 000 of 18th–20th century articles of clothing.

Just as Queen Victoria, Alexandre Vassiliev is a bright personality having great impact on its contemporaries and events. Besides being a Russian stage designer, decorator, art and fashion historian, art, clothing, and theatre props collector, he is also a style icon, a person having great sense of humour and encyclopaedic knowledge. Vassiliev recently became a host of Russian fashion TV-show, and he is also the author of many books on history of fashion, which became best-sellers. In Riga, Vassiliev also held an exclusive seminar for AB.LV private bankers. Given the bank and artist mutual interest and contentment with the results, the cooperation is expected to be long and diverse.

Not only clothing, bags, ball dresses, and jewellery will be possible to see during the “Victorian Fashion” exhibition, there will also be vintage photographs, watercolours, and pictures from Alexandre Vassiliev own collection presented, allowing visitors to feel the atmosphere of Victorian era, return to times when electricity and telegraph were invented, and Europe was recovering from gory wars. The 19th century Haute Couture fashion houses Worth, Doucet, and Paquin will be presented, and garments marked with romanticism, art nouveau, and japonisme elements will be demonstrated.

The “Victorian Fashion” exhibition was successfully presented in many cities of the world. You are welcome to use this unique opportunity as well.
