OREANDA-NEWS. August 19, 2009. The retail price of one liter of diesel fuel has increased from 9.59 up to 10.59 leis. The importers of petroleum products note that this is due to situation at the European market PLATT'S, which quotes are applied for the import of oil products to Moldova.

At the same time it is emphasized that, despite the PLATT'S increase, over half of the year, during sowing and harvesting works, the importers did not increase the cost of the diesel fuel, while the price of gasoline during that period have already been raised several times (from 8, 99 leis per liter of Ai-95 in March up to 10.59 leis per liter in August).

The last time the price of the diesel fuel in Moldova has changed on March 1, 2009 - then the retail price of 1 liter fell from 9.99 up to 9.59 leis (in early February the price decreased from 10.29 up to 9.99 leis). In March, the price of one ton of diesel fuel at PLATT'S made US376, in summer it reached US 621, and as of August 18 - US 590 per ton. Thus, since the beginning of the year, the increase in the cost of diesel fuel at PLATT'S makes US 215 or 57%, reaching US 245 or 65%, while in Moldova the price of the diesel remained unchanged.

The experts also note that since 2009 the change in the price of one barrel of oil do not directly affect the PLATT'S quotes any more. It is stressed that due to the difference in the oil products stocks in the warehouses, the Moldovan importers did not increase the cost at the same time - some have raised prices on Monday, some - only on Wednesday. The experts note that this is a sign of harsh competition at the market and mentioned that accusations that major players agree on the prices are unfounded.
