OREANDA-NEWS. August 19, 2009. In I half of 2009, production of canned fruit-vegetable products in Moldova as compared to the same period of 2008 has decreased by 36,7% - up to 156 million leis (US13.9 million).

As it was informed in the National Bureau of Statistics, the production of vegetable-fruit juices in kind has declined by 11.2% - up to 5, 539.3 tons and vegetables - by 60,5% - up to 4, 202.8 tons.

At the same time, production of canned fruits has grown by 4,7 times – up to 9, 065.8 tons. In 2009, it is expected to collect about 400 thousand tons of fruit and vegetables. This year canneries plan to process about 225 thousand tons of green-grocery raw material, including 180 thousand tons of fruits and 45 tons of vegetables.

 Moldovan canneries export more than 90% of the total volume of goods. Traditionally, the biggest importer of Moldovan fruits and vegetables is Russia.
