OREANDA-NEWS. On August 20, 2009 The Prime Minister of Ukraine declared that over 3-5 years Ukraine will forget finally about problems of energy dependence. She announced during the Annual gathering of the Board of Directors of the Ukrainian World Congress, underway in Lviv.

Yulia Tymoshenko emphasized that 70% of her time she spends on solving an issue of energy-independence of the country. According to her, notably, Ukraine is radically shortening consumption of natural gas and replacing it with alternative energy sources: “If in 2007 we took 52 billion cubic meters of gas, this year – 33 billion cubic meters and the following year we plan to take 25 billion cubic meters of Russian gas”. She added that the Government had elaborated special programs on replacement of natural gas with coal, renewable fuels, electric power or other components for every sector of economics. 

Yulia Tymoshenko informed that the Government was also engaged into solving an issue of depriving Ukraine of dependence on nuclear fuel: “We have made everything possible to complete the negotiation process and our work with Westin House and Holtex companies and we will build our Ukrainian plants on production of nuclear fuel”. Also, according to Yulia Tymoshenko, the Gov’t is realizing the program on development of uranium deposits: “Three more years and we will possess our own uranium ore”.

Besides, Yulia Tymoshenko informed by the end of year the second line of Dnister hydro-accumulating power plant is planned to finish: “Three to five years and Ukraine will forget about energy-dependence problems forever”.

Moreover, Yulia Tymoshenko noted Ukraine will build relations with the Russian Federation “on equal grounds, as one state with the other state, as equal partners, when none kneels before the other, none bows to the other and never hides eyes - we can look directly into the eyes and know where are our national interests”.
