OREANDA-NEWS. August 24, 2009. Turkmen livestock breeders launched the autumn shearing campaign. According to Turkmenmallary Association, 59 sheep farms affiliated with the Association are to shear about 2 million heads of sheep, the most part of which are of karakul breed. This year total of 18 million heads of sheep and 124,000 heads of camels are to be shorn throughout the country

Turkmen livestock breeders are engaged in laying-in of fodder, construction of sheep yards and other necessary facilities. To date, they have laid in over 62 percent of the total annual volume that is 301,500 tons. The rich harvests of fodder crops will ensure enough fodder for livestock this winter. In particular, the corn plantations occupy about 2,800 hectares. This September about 5,000 hectares of agricultural area will be sown with lucernee.

To date, 213 sheep yards with the three-layered walls have been built from the natural, ecologically pure materials. Over three hundreds of sheep yards will be built throughout the country. About 100 sheep yards will be reconstructed.

Watering ponds for livestock are under construction.
