OREANDA-NEWS. August 27, 2009. The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) expands exploration works in the national sector of the Caspian.

SOCAR reports that the company’s vessels launch geophysical researches in Bakhar-2 area, located nearby gas field Bakhar. They conduct 3D survey with the prospects of opening of oil and gas structure at the depth of 6,000-8,000 m. In a prospect,  in the area an exploratory well  will be drilled.

The deposit Bakhar opened in 1968. Maximal production in the deposit totaled 10mln cu m gas and 2,450 tons of oil per day. Over  40 years 128bn cu m gas and 16.806mln tons of oil and condensate were  obtained in the  deposit. Today, production makes 500,000 cu m gas and 20-30 tons of condensate per day.
