OREANDA-NEWS. August 28, 2009. The ceremony of putting the potable water plant into operation was held in the territory of M. Sopyev farmers association in Ak Bugday Etrap, Ahal Velayat. The project on construction of this modern facility supplied with state-of-the-art equipment was implemented by the Turkish company Polimeks.

The new plant – the largest water treatment facility in the country greeted the participants and guests of the ceremony. The specialists of the national ministries and departments, high-ranking officials of the town and velayat khyakimliks, journalists, the elders and students gathered there on this remarkable occasion. The opening ceremony begins with the demonstration of the video film about the production process and manufacturing technologies of the plant

As is known uninterrupted water supply is a priority of the social policy in Turkmenistan the ultimate goal of which is the welfare and prosperity of the Turkmen people. Construction of water treatment facilities and desalination units is en essential component of the social infrastructure development programme.

The potable water plant with the capacity of 250,000 cubic metres a day is the fourth enterprise that will supply pure potable water to the Turkmen capital. Putting the plant into operation will improve considerably water supply and meet the needs of the rapidly expanding city.

The excellent quality of potable water is guaranteed by the effective multistage treatment systems. Water from the Karakum River will be first kept in the special reservoir with the capacity of one million cubic metres, then it will be supplied directly to the plant where it will be clarified, filtered and chemically disinfected. Then purified water will be supplied via the 10-km water pipeline to the Gundogar tank farm of the Ashgabatagyzsuv Trust of the Ashgabat Khyakimlik and then distributed among the districts of the city.

The plant occupying the 3.5-hectare area is the ultramodern enterprise supplied with state-of-the-art equipment. It has three sections – aeration, water clarification and filtration equipped with process control system, laboratory, transformer and the administrative building. It should be noted that the manufacturing process use energy saving technologies. Specialized equipment installed at the plant is produced by the leading manufacturers of Germany and Italy.

The local specialists including mechanical engineers and laboratory specialists attended the special training courses. The laboratory works round-the-clock.

The adjacent territory is improved and planted with trees and shrubs. The lawns and trees will become the ‘green lungs’ of the enterprise and form a shady green park around the plant.
