OREANDA-NEWS. August 28, 2009. Komsomolets Donbassa Mine plans to invest UAH118m into degasification of the mine and methane utilization, said the Deputy Chief Engineer on Capital Construction of the mine, Vladimir Rogovets, at the press-conference in Donetsk. UAH38m of this amount have been disbursed as of today. Two installations for combustion of coal mine methane were built using these funds.

V.Rogovets explained that till 2012 the mine planned to build production capacities allowing the use of coal mine methane for generation of electricity for the internal needs of the mine. This will make it possible to generate up to 3 MW of electricity annually, which is 10-11% of the mine’s electricity consumption a year. He said that till the end of 2012 the mine planned to receive about UAH62m  through selling of quotas for greenhouse gas emissions within the framework of Kyoto Protocol. V.Rogovets added that in 2009 it was planned to convert the mine’s boiler houses to become gas-fired. This will allow saving 7 thou. tons of coal during a heating season.
