OREANDA-NEWS. On August 28, 2009 in Moscow a new railway link will begin between the centre of the city (Belorussky Station) and Sheremetyevo Airport. There will be 27 trains running in each direction per day, reported the press-centre of Russian Railways.

According to the timetable, the first train from Sheremetyevo to Moscow will leave at 5am, and the final train will leave at midnight. From Moscow, the first train will depart Belorussky Station at 5.30am, and the final train will depart at 1am. There will be around a 30 minute gap between trains, and the journey time is 35 minutes. The train will travel to Sheremetyevo with a stop at Savelovsky Station; it will return without stopping.

The President of Russian Railways, Vladimir Yakunin, welcomed guests and future passengers and celebrated the opening of the new rail link. He thanked all the participants of the project and emphasised that this was an example of a model partnership between business and government organs.

"We finished the task of organising direct rail transport from the centre of Moscow to the city’s three main airports a year ago," said Vladimir Yakunin. "But we decided not to stop there. The opening of the link between Belorussky Station and Sheremetyevo Airport is one of the key steps in the development of the Moscow transport hub. Belorussky Station is in the centre of Moscow, which means that passengers can get to the airport quickly and with minimal changes."

From the Russian Railways 2009 investment budget, around 300 million roubles has been earmarked for the Aeroexpress train between Belorussky Station and Sheremetyevo Airport.
