OREANDA-NEWS. On 31 August 2009 was announced, that preparation for the forthcoming celebration of the 90th anniversary of the Republic of Karelia continues. Anniversary of the Karelian statehood will be celebrated on June 8, 2010. Celebration of the anniversary of the republic will take place in all towns and regions of Karelia. The program of preparation for the forthcoming significant date includes celebration concerts and exhibitions to be held in June, and implementation of large projects on construction of new social objects. The draft plan totals 60 activities related to preparation and carrying out of celebrating of the 90th anniversary of formation of the Republic of Karelia, where implementation of 14 objects will be carried out at the financial support of the federal budget.

Among anniversary objects there are a new swimming pool in Kostomuksha, sport and recreation center in Lahdenpohja, a gym with workshops and a dining room for pupils of Sheltozero school, a new school in the settlement of Sukkozero, stadiums in Medvezhyegorsk and Olonets, etc. In Petrozavodsk these are completion of construction of one of the campus buildings and opening of business center of Petrozavodsk State University, consecration of the Church of St.Panteleimon in Drevlyanka city district, creation of the Kantele House with the auditorium fit out with the advanced equipment, realization of the next phase of the Clean Water project.

The plan of activities of the Petrozavodsk city district devoted to the 90h anniversary of the republic is being prepared separately. It includes opening of the new hotel on the quay of the capital, repair of city highways and the Lake Onego quay which was damaged by the storm in the autumn of 2008, and many other things.

The republic will be assigned considerable funds. Therefore, the program to be submitted to the federal government should be reconciled meticulously. Besides, it is necessary to define what is to be done this year, and what should be done in 2010, as the republic's budget expenditures depend on it.

The plan's separate entry is appearance of Petrozavodsk. Sergey Katanandov has emphasized: not only the guests, but all the townspeople should feel the holiday. Therefore, by next June the capital of Karelia should have a holiday-like appearance – lawns should be mowed, sidewalks should be resurfaced, facades of houses should be painted, streets of the city center should be beautified. City authorities will take care of the improvements. In 2010 it is supposed to assign no less than 100 million roubles for repair of roads.

Head of the Republic has supported offer of the mayor of Petrozavodsk Nikolay Levin to develop a project of reconstruction of Lenin Avenue, the main street of the capital of the republic, by the anniversary. The project should include everything from re-planning and expansion of the trafficway to accomplishment of facades and creation of recreation areas. This project, as well as the project of the further reconstruction of the Lake Onego quay, will be implemented within the next several years. Thus, the republic will meet the anniversary with completed objects and with new plans.

Now the draft plan will be discussed at the away meeting of the steering committee on preparation for celebrating the 90th anniversary of formation of the Republic of Karelia which its chairman First Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the Russian Federation Victor Zubkov plans to hold in Petrozavodsk in September.
