OREANDA-NEWS. September 2, 2009. In January-August 2009, Sea Commercial Port of Illichivsk (Ukraine) handled 10.939 million tonnes of cargo (-14.5%, year-on-year), the state company’s administration informs. In August of the current year the company decreased cargo transshipment by 13%, year-on-year, to 1.502 million tonnes.

The highest growth was demonstrated in transshipment of pig-iron (+ 32.6%), vegetable oil (+148.5%), ore (+96.1%). The steepest decline was registered in transshipment of automobile equipment – (-97%).

Transshipment of containers fell by 57%, year-on-year, but increased by 41% against July, the company says.

The port of Illichivsk is situated on the North coast of the Black Sea. It is one of 4 largest ports of Ukraine. Sea Commercial Port of Illichivsk is capable of handling over 30 million tonnes of cargoes annually. Its6,000-meter long quay line consists of 29 berths. In 2008, the port increased its throughput by 18%, year-on-year, to 18.9 million tonnes.
