OREANDA-NEWS. September 14, 2009. In October 2007 a contemporary air separation unit, which produces from 30 to 60 thousand cubic meters of oxygen per hour for technological needs, began to function in the oxygen compressor shop.

Next in turn is a new project — a plant “Chromium — 3” for producing krypton-xenon mixture. Its construction began in March. This plant is aimed at processing primary krypton concentrate, produced in the operating air separation units. The Works produces oxygen, argon and nitrogen for its own technological needs, as well as neon-helium, xenon-nitric and krypton-nitric mixtures for the purpose of realization.

The new plant will make it possible to produce expensive krypton-xenon mixture containing 92% of krypton, 3% of xenon and up to 5% of admixtures at minimum cost. For comparison: the percentage of admixtures in the products produced at present reaches 80-95%. The equipment for the “Chromium — 3” plant will be installed by an old partner of Zaporizhstal — firm “Iceblick”, which covers more than 50% of the world production of neon-helium and krypton-xenon mixtures, which are widely used in different branches of industry, including high-tech ones (aerospace, electronic, defence, etc.).

A construction and erection schedule has been made out according to the technical assignment. These jobs will be fulfilled by contractors of “Kislorodmontazh” and “Zaporozhstalstroy”. They are responsible for laying the foundation and installing pipelines, constructing the filling station, carry out other jobs. All these jobs are controlled by specialists from the oxygen-converter shop with direct involvement of “Iceblick” representatives.

In October the new plant will work at capacity.
