OREANDA-NEWS. September 15, 2009. SU-155 group of companies obtained a USD 48-million contract for building the underground hall of Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow.

The group has become a subcontractor of the project on a commission from the Moscow Government.

The total area of the 6-level underground facilities intended for rehearsals is designed to be 7,500 square metres. SU-155 is to complete the development of the theatre substructure in 2010 that is roughly a year ahead of the scheduled completion of the main structure reconstruction.

The complexity of the work lies in a fact that 85 per cent of it is manual work. As the construction is carried out in the underground part of the theatre, the work mechanization is practically not used.

The final cost of the development has not been estimated yet. Speaking to Vedomosti, a source close to the project aimed at renewing Bolshoi Theatre noted that its underground hall might cost the city of Moscow more than USD 48 million.
