OREANDA-NEWS. September 16, 2009. Futures prices for wheat, with a delivery in December 2009 fell to USD 4.5 per bushel of wheat or USD 165.3 per tonne on Chicago Commodity Exchange. The level is minimal for the last two years and is explained by the improved harvest forecasts of the largest wheat exporters, such as USA, Canada, Australia etc .

Millennium Capital sees the news to be negative for the domestic wheat producers. Currently wheat export prices correspond to the last year level due to the devaluation of hryvnia, while exceeding the domestic prices by a mere 15%. Further wheat price decrease on the world markets or a slight stabilization of the national currency, may increase wheat supply on the domestic market, thus decreasing the domestic wheat prices in early 2010.
