OREANDA-NEWS. September 18, 2009. The Economic Research Center of Azerbaijan presented the results of statistic surveys of consumer prices for Jan-Aug 2009 on 11 regions of the country within Budapest-based ACI Fund’s institutional assistance project Alternative Calculation of Inflation Level.

According to the Centre, surveys showed that this August index of consumer prices increased by 1.09% in Azerbaijan.

“For reported period prices in Baku rose by 1.65% and in regions by 0.54%. Despite the fact that fall of prices for non-food products and communications services was observed (0.46% and 0.08% respectively), increase of prices for foods by 2.27% resulted in inflation at the end of the month,” it was informed.

In accordance with Centre’s estimations, during Jan-Aug term Azerbaijan registered disinflation of 1.96%, including fall of prices for non-foods (4.4%) foods (4.4%) and rise of prices in the sector of services (4.32%).

“Compared to the index of August 2008, index of consumer prices in the country reduced by 3.9%. At the same time, annual disinflation was registered in food products - 6.15%, nonfood products – 3.72% and the prices in the sector of services increased by 6.8% over last year,” it was informed.

It was ascertained within the frames of carried out research that in August the largest rise in prices was for foods, in particular for chicken eggs - 48.6%, strawberries - 26% and tomatoes – 15.13%.
