OREANDA-NEWS. September 22, 2009. Moldovan civil aviation is celebrating its 65th jubilee. In 1944 the first unit of transport aircrafts arrived to Chisinau and Moldavian independent squadron started to function, reported the press-centre of Air Moldova.

"Air Moldova" holds leadership position on national air travel market. On a share "Air Moldova" have more than 50 % of air transportations registered on the Moldavian market.

Following the results of 9 months 2009, "Air Moldova" has transported more than 252 000 passengers. Despite the global economic crisis, in comparison with the similar period of 2008, passenger traffic maintained at the same level.

The airline has demonstrated a better growth dynamics on the passengers on air travel market in Moldova in July and August 2009. However, in July 2009 the company recorded a 5% growth of passenger traffic in comparison with July, 2008 and in August – 7%.

The growth of passenger traffic is noted on such directions as St-Petersburg (+32%), Moscow (+7%), Athens (+10%). About 1000 passengers have been transported on the new direction Chisinau-Milan, inaugurated at the end of March, 2009.

In general, in airline the dynamics of growth passenger flow are present throughout the summer season of navigation, from the beginning of what we have opened two new directions Chisinau-Milan, Chisinau-Varna (for summer) and have increased frequency of flights on Chisinau-Moscow direction up to two daily flights.

Such important results achieved by airline are based on the implementation of long-term program to modernize and expand the fleet (in March 2009 airline's fleet got expended with third aircraft Airbus A320 and in 5 months, in March 2010, the first time in the history of the Moldovan civil aviation companies fleet will get new aircraft - a new Brazilian aircraft Embraer-190 with 114 seats, the contract for the acquisition of which was signed in 2008) as well as on the successful implementation of commercial policy aiming to ensure safety, continuous improvement of quality of services.

Implemented airline marketing initiatives, attracted new, not previously existed on the airline market in Moldova, passengers who used the flights "Air Moldova" from Moscow and St.Petersburg to Europe by stopping over in the Chisinau International Airport that becomes a transit airport.

"Air Moldova" corresponds to the highest international standards, ensuring safety and has confirmed the IOSA operator certificate, having passed the operation safety audit. Inclusion in the register of the operators passed IOSA is recognition of "Air Moldova" airline in global aviation community as the safe carrier corresponding to the strictest international requirements.
