OREANDA-NEWS. September 24, 2009. EuroChem presented to Vladimir Putin a major investment project being implemented in Nevinnomyssk (Stavropol Territory). The cost to build the melamine plant with an output of 50 thousand tons per year is estimated at RUR 6.2 billion.

The creation of melamine production in Nevinnomyssk is an important event for the global chemical industry: at present more than a million tons of melamine is produced in the world every year, and the figure is predicted to increase substantially in the coming year. Until now, melamine production technology has been employed only in countries with highly developed industrial technologies (Germany, Netherlands, China, USA and Japan). Such production will be the first in Russia and as soon as in 2011 will provide domestically produced melamine and satisfy all existing needs of the Russian market in this product. Melamine production at the EuroChem enterprise is the most up-to-date in the world and is being developed jointly with leading European concerns.

The main purpose of melamine processing is the production of consumer goods, such as furniture, wall and floor coatings, molding compounds, textile and paper. In industry melamine is used for the production of paints and varnishes, glues, fire-resistant compounds and concretes.

EuroChem has chosen the safest, low-pressure technology for melamine production. Since the new production facility in Nevinnomyssk is being constructed together with the reconstruction of the existing facilities of the local EuroChem enterprise (Nevinnomyssky Azot), it will be the first time when the start-up of a new production facility does not increase pollutant emission but decreases it by over 40 tons per year. The facility to be built will enable creating new jobs in Nevinnomyssk and provide additional tax contributions to all-level budgets.
