OREANDA-NEWS. September 30, 2009. The Industry and Trade Ministry of the Russian Federation has proposed imposing a ban on beer sales in kiosks and markets which, according to industry experts, generate over 50% of their retail sales.

The proposal contained in the draft amendments to the law on regulation of production and sales of ethyl alcohol, alcohol and alcoholic products relates to a ban on sales on retail and wholesale food markets, in stands, kiosks, tents and other “trade facilities without fixed shopping space”. “This measure could be lethal…”, said a spokesperson of a Western beer major commenting on a potential impact of the ban on the industry.
