OREANDA-NEWS. October 2, 2009. Ingosstrakh IJSC provided support to the Zvezda TV Channel to create the documentary series “Alexander Suvorov. All battles of the Generalissimo.” dedicated to the great Russian commander who hadn’t lost a single battle in his military career. 

The film will tell about Alexander Suvorov’s background, his youth and beginning of his military path, the Seven-Year War, Catherine’s revolution, the war against the Bar Confederation, annexation of Cuban and the Crimea, Russian-Turkish wars and many other battles won by the Russian army led by this gifted and courageous man. To speak about the main events in Suvorov’s life from the places where they happened, the author and director of the series Sergey Kostin with his film crew went to eleven countries, including Byelorussia, Poland, Germany, Ukraine, Moldavia, Romania, Bulgaria, Austria, Italy and Switzerland. Some stories from Suvorov’s life will be told by outstanding actors Alla Demidova and Armen Djigarkhanian. Myths and legends about Suvorov will be presented as cartoons made specially for these series.

The film is dedicated to 210th anniversary of the legendary Suvorov’s march across the Alps. The film will be shown by Zvezda in November this year. On the 22nd of September there was a celebration held in Switzerland to commemorate this event. It was attended by the President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev and the President of Switzerland Hans-Rudolf Merz. The heads of states visited a memorial next to the Gotthard Pass. This Swiss campaign became the climax of Suvorov’s military achievements: he was betrayed by his Austrian allies and thrown into a hopeless situation, but managed to rescue the Army and the glory of the Russian arms. .

Alexander Vasilievich Suvorov is known in the world history as an outstanding commander and military thinker. He was a well-educated man, who had intricate knowledge not only of the trade of war, but other sciences, too. He left an enormous military theoretical and practical heritage. Being the successor of Peter the First and the disciple of P.A. Rumiantsev, Suvorov raised a plethora of great Russian commanders and military leaders, the most outstanding among them were M.I. Kutuzov and P.I. Bagration. D.A. Milutin, M.I. Dragomirov, A.A. Brusilov and other famous Russian military commanders drew on Suvorov’s ideas.
