OREANDA-NEWS. October 07, 2009. This was announced by EBRD Director for Caucasus, Moldova and Belarus Paul-Henri Forestier during the meeting with the Acting President of Moldova, the Chairman of the Parliament Mihai Ghimpu.

He noted that these funds will be invested mainly in the transport industry. Paul-Henri Forestier welcomed the reforms undertaken by the current Moldovan government, assuring that the new leadership of the country will receive full support of EBRD and other European structures, if they continue to carry out democratic reforms.

In his turn, Mihai Ghimpu said the new Moldovan authorities are interested in promotion and implementation of democratic reforms in the interests of all citizens. The named reforms will be aimed at liberalizing of the economy, creating a favorable climate for foreign investors, ensuring free and fair judicial system, modernization of education, medicine and free press. It is also planned to carry out projects in the field of regional development, national infrastructure, small and medium-sized enterprises, construction of roads, water supply and sanitation.

Mihai Ghimpu stressed that these reforms will need international organizations’ support. Paul-Henri Forestier noted that EBRD will also provide financial support to Moldova in implementation of the various investment projects.
