OREANDA-NEWS On 07 October was announced, that Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko supported the proposal of the Trade Unions Federation of Belarus to increase the minimum wage to the minimum subsistence level, the press service of the president reported following Lukashenko’s meeting with the chairman of the Federation Leonid Kozik. 

The minimum wage now stands at 0.93 of the minimum subsistence level. 

Lukashenko asked Kozik to compile a report on the result of the contractual system. Over 30% of contracts are signed for over 3 years, and 35%, for over 5 years. 

Lukashenko noted the importance of enabling those working short weeks and willing to have a new profession to retrain. 

Kozik expressed his concern over the situation at OAO Motovelo: trade unions were promised that the administration of the company would preserve the number of jobs, however, the company seems to be recovering very slowly. Lukashenko instructed the Federation to keep an eye on the situation and report to him on the efforts to improve it.
