OREANDA-NEWS. October 09, 2009. Chairman of the IBC Board Azamat Murzaliev, IBC Executive Director Kuban Ashyrkulov and the member of the IBC Committee on Mineral Resources, Fred Huston, attended the regular meeting of the Investment Council under the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, which was held in the House of Government, reported the press-centre of IBC.

"With increasing competition for attracting investors, Kyrgyzstan should go a step ahead of other countries," said President of Kyrgyzstan Kurmanbek Bakiev during the meeting.

The President noted the fruitful cooperation of the Investment Council with the Government, business associations and the donor community to improve the international ranking of Kyrgyzstan regarding the business environment.

"Over the past two years we have been able to move from 99th to 41st position in the world on the overall ease of doing business. The task to joined top 50 countries in Doing Business has been completed," said President Bakiev.

Improving the competitiveness of the domestic economy should be the main criterion for the reforms of the Government. The solution of this problem should be a priority not only for the Government but also for business, stressed the President. .
 
The agenda of the meeting included six questions. The Head of the Secretariat of the Investment Council, Taalaibek Koichumanov, reported on the execution of decisions of the previous IC meeting.

President Bakiev recommended the Prime Minister Igor Chudinov within a week to identify the leaders of state agencies who had published departmental orders, hampering reforms to improve the business environment.

First Deputy Chairman of State Customs Committee, Kubanychbek Kulmatov, reported on measures taken to improve customs administration for the subjects of foreign economic activity.

Summing up the meeting, President Bakiev shared suggestions for the new challenges faced by the Investment Council and the Government.
