October 9, 2009.  The Exhibition Centre invited the people and guests of Ashgabat to visit the Fishing Industry of Turkmenistan-2009 International Exhibition and the Protection and Efficient Use of Marine Bioresources of the Caspian Sea International Conference. The organizers of the three-day forum are the State Committee for Fishing Industry and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan.

The exposition displays the fishing industry innovations and outstanding achievements and future prospects of the Turkmen and foreign companies. The large-scale exhibition highlights various aspects of fishing industry development – from fish processing lines to state-of-the-art fishing equipment. Particular emphasis is put on such strategic factor as conservation and efficient use of fish resources of the rivers, inland waters and the Caspian Sea and protection of the aquatic environment of Turkmenistan. 

The high-ranking officials of the Mejlis, the national ministries and departments, the representatives of the large public, the foreign diplomats accredited to Turkmenistan, scientists and journalists took part in the opening ceremony. The welcoming address of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to participants of the international forums was presented during the opening ceremony. In particular, the Turkmen leader noted that the large-scale work launched in the country to strengthen the material and technical base and modernize the fishing industry set the task to attract foreign partners as well as innovative technologies in this sector of Turkmen economy that was the major aim of the international forum. The Turkmen leader noted that the forums would provide the conditions conducive to the effective and fruitful work, exchanging experiences and views, specifying the fields of cooperation and further enhancing partnership for the partners willing to develop cooperation with Turkmenistan in this sector.

The exposition presents the products – fresh, frozen, dried, smoked, canned fish and fish flour produced by the leading fishing enterprise of Turkmenistan – Balkanbalyk State Enterprise, which has the fishing and processing infrastructure. The state fishing enterprises from all the regions of the country, which breed fish in artificial ponds and catch it in the inland lakes and rivers, present their products at the exhibition. The private companies including those who make the uniform for fishermen and fishing industry workers are widely represented at the exhibition.

The exhibition includes the pavilions of the departments and organisations, whose activity is closely interrelated with the fishing industry. They are the Ministry of Water Resources, the Ministry of Environmental Protection, Union of the Societies of Hunters and Fishermen Turkmenistan.

The Ashgabat Exhibition Centre provides a platform for establishing mutually advantageous cooperation. Today Turkmenistan provides the powerful incentives to foster investment activity in the country that makes the country attractive for foreign partners. That is vividly evidenced by the participation of about three dozen companies from 15 countries worldwide in the forum. These include the well-known companies such as FISCHTECHNIK International Engineering, UNIMAG (Germany), Korea Trading & Industries Co. (South Korea), Vadan Yards Okean (Ukraine), Ammanulah General trading"( UAE), Sudoexport foreign trade enterprise, Lenmontazh LLC, Gran Public Corporation (Russian Federation). The companies from the Baltic and Scandinavian countries, where the fishing industry is traditionally one of the major articles of the gross national product, have showed great interest in the Ashgabat exhibition.

The foreign partners offer state-of-the-art equipment, advanced technologies, fishing nets and tackles, fishing vehicles, fish farms and fish-factory ships, quick-freezing machines and cooling equipment to Turkmenistan’s fishing industry. The commercial fish farms, the so-called aquaculture farms, are widely repented at the exhibition. Many of them present the modules that efficiently consume clean water – the so-called circulating system that can be effectively used in the natural and climatic conditions of Turkmenistan.

The Protection and Efficient Use of Marine Bioresources of the Caspian Sea International Conference started its work at the Exhibition Centre. It brought together the specialists of the industrial enterprises, higher schools and scientists from Turkmenistan and many countries worldwide. The well-known fishery biologists and experts from Russia, Ukraine, Germany, Korea, Israel, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates made the presentations at the forum. Turkmenistan was represented by the specialists of the research institutes, the State Committee of Fishing Industry of Turkmenistan. The specialists of the oil and gas companies, which operate on the Turkmen shelf of the Caspian Sea and are responsible for the ecological wellbeing of the natural habitat of the stock of commercial fish in the Caspian Sea, presented the reports at the conference.
