OREANDA-NEWS. October 14, 2009. A delegation of Iran led by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Iran to Belarus Seyyed Abdollah Hosseini and Mazandaran Province Governor Seyyed Mohammad Karimi is expected to visit the Gomel oblast on 14-18 October.

The visit is supposed to foster trade and economic cooperation, mutual promotion of goods and services onto the markets of the two countries and establish contacts in other areas.

While in Gomel the delegation is expected to meet with Gomel Oblast Governor Alexander Yakobson. The delegation will visit such companies as Belorusneft, Spartak, Gomselmash, enterprises located in the free economic zone Gomel Raton, the National Research Center for Radiation Medicine and Human Ecology. The Iranian delegation will also visit major industrial enterprises and farm tourism facilities in the Rechitsa, Svetlogorsk, Mozyr regions, getting familiar with the cultural heritage of the region.

The Gomel community center will host the first Belarusian-Iranian regional economic forum on 17 October, Saturday. The Gomel oblast is expected to present around 60 investment proposals which may be interesting for Iranian businessmen.

Marina Filonova remarked, it is not the first visit of Iranian business circles to the Gomel oblast. Cooperation is expanding. At present the oblast plans to implement three major projects using Iranian capital. Major exports of the Gomel oblast to Iran are products of Belarusian Steel Works and agricultural machines made by the manufacturing corporation Gomselmash. In January-August 2009 the export approached USD 6.3 million, 180% up on the same period of last year.
