OREANDA-NEWS. From 28 October 2009 regulation of most retail prices in Belarus will end, exception for 50 socially important goods. The measure is backed by a Resolution of the Ministry of Economy (# 141 of 19 August 2009).

Prices of some goods will remain regulated in the shape of limits on traders’ price margins. These include certain foods (e.g. meat and dairy products, fruit), goods for children, and medicines.

At the same time, a special formula applies, e.g., to selling prices for goods of foreign origin for onward sale to companies for own production and (or) consumption, temporary imports for processing purposes. The formula for calculating the selling price involves adding a margin not exceeding 30 per cent to the base sum. The base sum consists of the following elements: the contract price, customs duties, transportation costs, other costs associated with compliance with legal requirements on import of goods, insurance costs, loan interest.
