OREANDA-NEWS. October 21, 2009. Murmansk Regional Administration and Aeroflot-Nord have signed a Cooperation Agreement during the I Murmansk International Economic Forum.

The Agreement is aimed at mutually beneficial cooperation between the Murmansk Region and Aeroflot-Nord in the sphere of “satisfaction of individual passengers’ and organizations’ demand for domestic and international air services.” The Parties have agreed on cooperation in the sphere of planning and realization of such activities as Murmansk Region air transport infrastructure development, flight safety improving, high-quality air services provision.

Aeroflot-Nord traditionally operates regular flights from Murmansk Airport. The most popular destinations are Moscow and Saint-Petersburg, during the summer season – Southern destinations.

According to Mr. Oleg Usmanov, Aeroflot-Nord’s Director General, Murmansk is included into strategic interests zone of the airline, together with other Northern airports, such as Arkhangelsk, Naryan-Mar and Syktyvkar. Being almost the base carrier in the Murmansk Region, Aeroflot-Nord strives for a balanced pricing policy in order to make air services more accessible for population of the Murmansk Region. Aeroflot-Nord also takes an active part as a carrier in regional programs aimed at culture, sports and education development. In particular, Aeroflot-Nord has become the general carrier of the I Murmansk International Economic Forum. In March-April 2009 Aeroflot-Nord was the general carrier of the International Winter Spartakiad “Prazdnik Severa” (Rus. “Northern Holiday”), where about 5 thousand Russian and foreign sportsmen took part. In January-September 2009 Aeroflot-Nord has carried more than 133 000 passengers from and to Murmansk Airport both on regular and charter flights.

Mr. Oleg Usmanov, Aeroflot-Nord’s Director General, has commented on the airline’s prospects in Murmansk, ”We are aware that Murmansk passengers are exacting customers. Competition on the Murmansk market is rather high. That is why we value so much when Murmansk passengers choose our company. We do our best to satisfy their demands. For instance, soon we are to introduce an additional evening flight to Saint-Petersburg (three days a week). When it comes to mid-term perspective, we will continue to modernize our aircraft fleet. Of greatest interest for Northern flights are the so-called regional jets with seating capacity up to 50 seats. With such jets we will be able to develop new routes from Northern cities to Scandinavia, as well as interregional domestic routes.
