OREANDA-NEWS. October 21, 2009. International commercial Aktau port and Hamburg port have an intention to develop their co-operation, informed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan with reference to II Kazakhstani-German economic forum results that took place October 19, 2009. 

Under the document RK and FRG Embassies presented economic opportunities of Mangistautskaya region and most up-to-date investment projects of the region. Special attention was given to the issues of special economic zone development – Aktau seaport fitted out with high-quality export-oriented production and implementation of projects on Caspian power hub construction.

German participants were especially interested in the report on strategy of transport and logistics system development in Kazakhstan. The German specialists were informed on real draft of railway transport corridors development in the region and foundation of Aktau international multi-modal transport-logistic center.

Sebastian Yurgens, Head of the Hamburg port Administration, expressed his interest in Aktau port co-operation development taking into consideration all the projects being implemented.

Aktau port is located on the eastern coast of the Caspian Sea and is the only seaport of the Republic of Kazakhstan involved in international freight of dry cargo, crude oil and oil products.
 
Hamburg port is located in the Elba river estuary, 100 km away from the Sea but able to receive 250 thousand tons dwt vessels. Hamburg port is the third large European port after Rotterdam and Antwerp, and the second large European container terminal. Hamburg port cargo turnover amounted to 140.4 million tons in 2008.
