OREANDA-NEWS. October 26, 2009. This was announced by the head of the department for the Eastern Europe, Southern Caucasus and Central Asia of the European Commission Gunnar Wiegand during the meeting in Chisinau with the Deputy Prime Minister of Moldova for the country’s reintegration Viktor Osipov.

During the dialogue, the parties have discussed prospects of cooperation between Moldova and the European Union in the field of Transnistrian conflict regulation. The senior European official highly estimated the efforts aimed at resuming the negotiating process in 5 +2 format in order to find a viable and lasting solution to the Transnistrian conflict, respecting sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova.

He expressed readiness of the European Commission to strengthen assistance and promote confidence-building measures between the two banks of the Dniester, including provision of the grant of 2 million euros to support projects in the economic sector. According to EC representative, change and modernization of the daily realities of socio-economic life will increase the attractiveness of Moldova for all categories of population, including the residents of the Transnistrian region.

 The Deputy Prime Minister of Moldova expressed his gratitude for the support provided and confirmed the interest of Moldova in strengthening the EU’s role in the Transnistrian conflict settlement.
