OREANDA-NEWS. October 26, 2009. Vyksa Steel Works (VSW, Nizhni Novgorod Region), part of United Metallurgical Company (OMK), has reported its operating results for August and the 8 months of 2009.

From the beginning of this year, VSW produced 993.7 thousand tonnes of pipes of various grades and shipped more than 1 million tonnes of pipes. In August 2009, VSW produced 146.5 thousand tonnes of pipes, which is 11.6% more than in August 2008 (131.3 thousand tonnes), and shipped 150.1 thousand tonnes of pipes, which is 23% more than in August 2008 (122.2 thousand tonnes).

In August 2009, VSW manufactured 96.5 thousand tonnes of large-diameter pipes (LDP), or 59.1% more than in August 2008 (60.7 thousand tonnes). During January–August, VSW’s LDP output was 635.1 thousand tonnes, or 31.8% more than in the equivalent period in 2008 (482 thousand tonnes).

In August, VSW continued with its shipments for the Bovanenkovo-Ukhta project and started to manufacture large-diameter pipes for the construction of a main gas pipeline in Nigeria and the gas transmission system Sakhalin-Khabarovsk–Vladivostok.

“At present, the VSW pipe facilities are well off for orders,” said VSW Executive Director Vladimir Kochetkov. “Our participation in such large projects as Nord Stream, Baltic Pipeline System 2, and the North European Gas Pipeline enable us to be confident about our future.”

The VSW Wheel Rolling Facility produced 26,000 railroad wheels in August 2009. During the 8 months of 2009, it produced 269.3 thousand wheels.
