OREANDA-NEWS. October 26, 2009. United Metallurgical Company (OMK) continues to ship large-diameter pipes (LDP), under its agreement with Rosneft, for the construction of a long-distance oil pipeline from one of Russia's largest oil fields, the Vankor Field in the Krasnoyarsk Territory.

At present, OMK delivers pipes of 530 mm in diameter with a wall thickness of 14 mm (steel grade: X56). For this type of pipes, OMK is the exclusive supplier for the Vankor Field Project. Due to the project’s harsh climatic and geographical operational environment, Rosneft set several additional requirements for metal chemistry, base metal impact-bending tests, welded-seam impact-bending tests, and others. OMK fulfilled the customer’s requirements accurately and on time.

Earlier on, in 2008 and early 2009, OMK had shipped for the Vankor project about 19 thousand tonnes (100% of the overall volume of X56 steel pipes) of such pipes.

In 2006–2007, OMK produced and delivered under the agreement 46 thousand tonnes (30% of the overall volume of large-diameter pipes) of pipes of 820 mm in diameter with wall thicknesses of 12 mm and 14 mm.

Therefore, OMK, as the key LDP supplier for the Vankor Field development project, shipped under its agreement with Rosneft about 70 thousand tonnes of LDP.

The Vankor Field is one of Russia's largest. Before late 2009, according to specialists, Vankor is estimated to produce about 3 million tonnes of oil, while in 2010 oil production may reach 10 million tonnes. The maximum production will be reached in 2013. The Vankor Field’s annual capacity is estimated at 25 million tonnes. The 550-km main oil line, with a capacity of 18 million tonnes, will connect Vankor with Purpe settlement, where a pumping station and the entrance to the Transneft system are located.
