OREANDA-NEWS. November 09, 2009. Vice Premier the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, Minister of Foreign Affairs R. Meredov and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt Ahmed Fathallah, who was on a visit to Turkmenistan, had a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

During the meeting the sides discussed a wide range of the important issues of international cooperation and global and regional politics of mutual interest.

The talks focused on the issues related to the official visit of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to the Arab Republic of Egypt, which was scheduled for 2010. It was noted that the Turkmen leader’s visit would offer new powerful incentives to develop the bilateral dialogue and lay the foundation for closer and more effective Turkmen-Egyptian cooperation in all fields.

Appreciating the friendly and respectful relations between Turkmenistan and Egypt, the two sides focused on the importance of fostering the bilateral political relations and called for intensifying contacts between the foreign ministries in particular through using the mechanism of inter-ministry consultations.

The focus of the talks was the ways to expand and intensify trade and economic cooperation. In this context the sides discussed the possibility of holding the second meeting of the intergovernmental Turkmen-Egyptian commission for economic cooperation in 2010 in Cairo.

Putting emphasis on the need to implement in full the existing potential of partnership the parties specified the priority fields including energy sector, industry, agriculture, health care, transport, tourism. The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt said that the Egyptian companies which had the profound experience of work in these areas were interested in cooperation with Turkmenistan.

Appreciating the progress in the Turkmen-Egyptian relations and the commitment of both countries to partnership for strengthening world peace, stability and security, the sides reaffirmed mutual interest in Turkmenistan and Egypt in further expanding and strengthening bilateral cooperation within the international organisations, the UN in particular.

The honorary Egyptian guest held the talks at the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry, the Ministry of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations and the State Committee for Tourism and Sport of Turkmenistan.
