OREANDA-NEWS. November 17, 2009. The volume of remittances to Moldova from individuals from abroad through the commercial banks amounted to US845,71 million

According to the National Bank of Moldova, they have declined by US 416.68 million, or 33%. At the same time, US 698.57 million, or 82.6% of the total transfers in the period were sent through fast money transfers system.

In September the remittances totaled US 114.27 million, having decreased by 28,3% (US 159.39 million) as compared to September of the last year. 55.1% of the total transactions accounted for U.S dollar, 9,4% - for euro and 5,5% - for the Russian ruble.

The largest amounts were transferred to Moldova in September 2009 - US 114.27 million, the lowest - in January 2009 - US 64.3 million. Transfers in I quarter of 2009 totaled US 225.71 million, in II quarter - US 289.06 million, in the III quarter - US 330.94 million, respectively.

As it was informed before, in 2008 remittances sent to Moldova amounted to US 1 billion 660.06 million, having increased in comparison with the previous year by 36,3%. The volume of remittances from the Moldovan labor migrants has steadily increased till July 2008, but since August in connection with the global financial crisis has gradually declined.

The largest amounts were sent from Russia and Italy. According to the World Bank, the Moldovan guest workers’ remittances make up about one third of the country’s GDP.
