OREANDA-NEWS. November 17, 2009. Navis Design Bureau has firstly introduced new GPS-GLONASS dual system chipset similar in size to GPS chipset. The market participants note it is a breakthrough moment for the Russian navigation market. Nevertheless the market will hardly evolve without governmental support. Receivers based on 90nm technology will be produced by Navis in cooperation with international partners.

The 90 nm technology has not been fully implemented by Russian microelectronic industry that is why the first lots will be produced at foreign production facilities. It is expected to launch the mass production of receivers as early as in the first half of 2010.

It is planned to produce as many as 300,000 receivers in 2010. By 2010 the receivers' production volume is expected to exceed 1 million items per year. According to the company the final testing of the first chip prototypes is being carried out at the moment. The receiver size is supposed to be 9?11 mm (the existing electronic board based modules measure at least 35?35 mm while GPS-modules measure at least 5?5 мм), and the cost is supposed to drop from 1,800 rubles to 450 rubles which is close to that of GPS measured nearly USD 10.
