OREANDA-NEWS. November 23, 2009. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov made a working trip around the capital to review the progress in implementing the projects aimed at modernizing urban transport and communication infrastructure in the capital city

During the trip the President made a stop at the intersection of one of the main city highways of Ashgabat – Turkmenbashi Avenue and Galkynys Street. At present the Polimeks construction company is engaged in reconstruction of the section of the highway leading towards the southern part of the city.

The Turkmen leader emphasized that the development of urban transportation and communication infrastructure including construction and reconstruction of the highways was a key aspect of the Ashgabat development concept, the major goal of which was to create the comfortable conditions of life in the main city of the country in compliance with international standards. In this regard the President put emphasis on the need to apply advanced technologies and latest engineering thought in practice and use modern building materials. Noting that the climatic conditions of Turkmenistan should be taken into consideration when developing road construction projects, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov addressed the particular remarks and suggestions concerning to improvement of the highways to the contractor company and the relevant high-ranking officials.

During the working trip the leader reviewed the progress of construction of the administrative building of the Emergency Management Centre of Turkmenistan. The Minister of Defence reported of the progress in construction.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov reviewed the draft designs of the new architectural ensemble that was being formed at the intersection of Turkmenbashi Avenue and Galkynys Street. Along with the administrative building of the Emergency Management Centre of Turkmenistan this ensemble included the main building of Magtymguly Turkmen State University and the Nisa Hotel under reconstruction. The facades of the buildings form the open circle with the monumental stele in the centre.

Demanding that the excellent quality of construction works be ensured, the President said that every detail should be taken into consideration for the construction works were carried on in the historical centre of the capital.

The draft designs of bus tops, which would be built on the city highways, developed in the framework of the programme on modernization of road and transport infrastructure were presented to the President for consideration. Approving the draft designs in general, the Turkmen leader said that new bus stops should provide the comfortable conditions to passengers in any season of the year and newsstands should be built nearby.

Then Olivier Bouygues, Vice-President of French Bouygues reported on the progress in construction of the palace complex for the President of Turkmenistan.

Then the President visited the building of Turkmenhaly State Joint Stock Company. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized again that the high standards of living could be guaranteed through taking an integrated approach to fulfilling the designated tasks and implementing the Ashgabat development concept and urban development policy in general. Focusing on the measures taken to beautify Ashgabat Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov demanded that every detail be thoroughly considered – from street illumination and construction of highways and sidewalks to planting trees and laying out of parks. Touching upon construction of highways and buildings the President said that they would adorn the main city of the country, become the symbols of the new time and therefore meet the highest criteria of safety and quality and aesthetical standards. In this regard the Turkmen leader gave instructions to the specialists of Polimeks and Bouygues, the Vice Premiers and the relevant high-ranking officials. The President of Turkmenistan instructed to draft the proposals on construction of a gallery of fountains, which would become one more ‘visit card’ of rapidly beautifying Ashgabat.

Mr. Olivier Bouygues reported on the progress in implementing the projects by the French company in Ashgabat. Commenting on the report Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov demanded that the French partners comply with the major requirements set by Turkmenistan to all construction contractors – the high quality and compliance with the period of construction.

Mr. Olivier Bouygues assured that the French company was greatly interested in further development of mutually advantageous cooperation with Turkmenistan and would meet the commitments and fulfill the President’s instructions.
