OREANDA-NEWS. December 14, 2009. Road infrastructure in the capital of independent Turkmenistan will be developed rapidly. On the initiative of the Turkmen leader the leading specialists and companies are involved in implementing the long-term programme on the development of Ashgabat as well as the large-scale projects on construction of highways, flyovers, circle interchange and bridges. In particular these include Vozrojdenie Production Association – the largest holding company in the northwest of Russia.

During President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov’s visit to St. Petersburg this April this company presented the draft designs of transport interchanges and the draft architectural concept of the improvement of the quays and bridges across the Karakum River and other facilities to the Turkmen leader.

The East-West project is of particular concern for the Turkmen leader. The new transport system proposed by the specialists from St. Petersburg within the framework of the Ashgabat development concept for the period till 2030 allows adding the northern section of the ring road under construction around the Turkmen capital to the urban road infrastructure and using it to solve the problem of turning transit vehicles away from of the main city highways.

Only six months have passed since the presentation of this important project and the Vozrojdenie Production Association is becoming one of the largest players on the road construction market in Turkmenistan. Under the contracts concluded with the Government of Turkmenistan the Russian specialists will build seven road interchanges, three bridges across the Karakum River and two sections of roads in the suburbs of Ashgabat. In addition, the company concluded the contract for construction of a flyover in Turkmenbashi town, which will connect the air terminal under construction in the town with the Avaza national tourism zone, and an overpass that will divide increased traffic flows in the littoral town.

Nowadays, the bridge builders from St. Petersburg make preparations for construction of a flyover over the Ashgabat-Mary highway that will connect Kuliev Street with the ring road.

The Russian specialists say that the use of modern materials for constructing the facilities in Turkmenistan allows performing high-quality work. The design institutes of the Production Association are engaged in selecting the special types of paving materials for highways in Ashgabat that were modified to comply with the local conditions and designed for a heavier traffic load and long service life.

The Russian specialists are planning to use street lighting for all facilities and plant them with greenery with artificial irrigation. Thus, in the near future the ring road, which will be built by the Russian company, will become the main highway for the further development of adjoining districts of the city as it is done now on Archabil highway and other city highways.
