OREANDA-NEWS. December 14, 2009. Negotiations devoted to construction of Rogunskaya HEPP in Republic Tajikistan were held at OAO “Institute Hydroproject” (managed by “Engineering Center UES”). The subject of discussion was selection of the main hydraulic power equipment.

Besides specialists of “Institute Hydroproject”, the negotiations were attended by representatives of Republic Tajikistan – F. Khamraliev (Minister of Economic development and trade of Republic Tajikistan), I. Nasyrov (Head of Department for construction and architecture of executive office of the President of Republic Tajikistan), D. Murodov (Head of Legal department of executive office of the President of Republic Tajikistan), N. Shulashov (Director General of Rogunskaya HEPP), A. Rakhimov (Technical Director of Rogunskaya HEPP), G. Boyev (Head of Administrative Department of Rogunskaya HEPP) and R. Kurbanov (Director General of TajikSGEM). Also, delegates from main equipment suppliers – “Electrotyazhmash” works (Ukraine) and OAO “SGEM” (St Petersburg) were present at the negotiations.

In the course of the discussion the participants considered the selection of the main hydropower equipment (in particular, hydro power generators). HEPP Stage 1 construction includes installation of two hydraulic power generators. At construction site, there is already some equipment that has been kept there since the early 90-ies. However, it is probable that it has become obsolete, both morally and physically. In order to identify the state of this equipment, it was decided to form the committee for instrumental survey of the available equipment before the end of December, 2009. This committee will estimate if it is possible to use the equipment for this project so that during January 2010 the survey team could implement instrumental inspection according to the prepared program and issue their conclusion. The committee will include representatives of original equipment manufacturers, scientific research and design organizations of Republic Tajikistan. It will be reminded that Rogunskaya HEPP is located in Republic Tajikistan on the river Vakhsh upstream of the existing Nurekskaya HEPP and prospective Shurobskaya HEPP. This is the major HEPP in Central Asia. The installed capacity of the station is 3 600 MW, mean annual power output is 13,3 billion kW/h.

Construction of the water engineering system was started in 1978 and continued till 1992 with low speed of construction. During the flood of 1992, due to exceedingly long-time operation of temporary structures, the considerable portion of the built structures was destroyed. This was the reason why construction of water engineering system was suspended. In 2007 construction effort resumed. Republic Tajikistan is planning to complete construction and commission the 250 MW phase one plant in the year 2012.
