OREANDA-NEWS. December 15, 2009. Freight One’s Voronezh branch has finished the seasonal haulage of sugar beet plants from Izberdey and Platonovka stations in Tambov Region. The haulage exceeded 250,000 metric tons. Raw beets for sugar production and granulated sugar beet pulp were hauled to OJSC Nikiforovsky Sugar Factory, one of Russia’s largest refineries. The beets were hauled in gondolas from September to November.

According to Anatoly Spivakov, Head of the Department of Agrarian Policy of the Government of the Voronezh Region, the Voronezh regional authorities intend to increase the planting of sugar beets by 30—40% in 2010.

"We are ready to support regional farmers and ensure 100% export of the production to processing plants. If the plans of the regional authorities come to fruition and next year’s harvest is higher than that of 2009, Freight One will also provide sufficient rolling stock in a timely fashion for loading according to schedule," said Branch Director Alexander Gerasimov.
