OREANDA-NEWS. December 18, 2009. According to the National Bank of Moldova, as compared with the same period of 2008, it has declined by US 445.74 million (31.8%).

At the same time, US793.3 million (82.8%) of the total remittances in the period were sent through the fast money transfer systems. In particular, the transfers in October totaled US 111.56 million, decreasing as compared with October 2008 (US 141.28 million) by 21%. In October 2009, 53,8% of all remittances accounted for U.S. dollar, 41,1% - for euro and 5,1% - for the Russian ruble.

The largest amount has been transferred in September 2009 - US 114.27 million and the lowest - in January - US 64.3 million. The amount of remittances in I quarter totaled US 225.71 million, in II quarter - US 289.07 million and in III quarter - US 331.59 million, respectively.

As it was reported before, in 2008 remittances to Moldova from individuals from abroad through commercial banks amounted to US 1 billion 660.06 million, increasing over the previous year by 36,3%. The volume of remittances from the Moldovan labor migrants grew till July 2008, but since August they began to decline due to economic-financial crisis.

The largest amounts were sent from Russia and Italy. According to the World Bank, Moldovan guest workers’ remittances make up about one third of the country’s GDP.
