OREANDA-NEWS. December 31, 2009. Starting 2 February 2010 the Belarusian and Ukrainian customs services will start testing the preliminary data sharing system related to the goods and transport vehicles transported via the joint border. Chairman of the Belarus State Customs Committee Alexander Shpilevsky and Chairman of the Ukrainian State Customs Service Anatoly Makarenko reached the relevant agreement in Novaya Guta – Novye Yarylovichi border checkpoint on 29 December.

The introduction of the preliminary data sharing system is one of the concrete measures to adjust the activity of the Belarusian and Ukrainian customs services within the framework of the Eastern Partnership Programme. During the meeting, the sides also discussed the adaptation of the automated data systems of the Belarusian and Ukrainian customs bodies within the framework of the cooperation with the EU New Computerised Transit System (NCTS). According to Nikolai Shpilevsky, in the near future both the sides will hand over the relative materials based on the reached agreements to the EU Commission.

The sides have reached an agreement to conduct the agreed policy on attracting the EU funds to construct and renovate border checkpoints on the Belarusian and Ukrainian borders, prepare the joint projects on developing the border infrastructure.

During the meeting, the sides also discussed the cooperation of central and regional customs bodies of Belarus and Ukraine.
