OREANDA-NEWS. January 4, 2010. Ingosstrakh has paid out 4.4 million rubles to its client, one of the largest banks in Russia, following the malicious damage to an ATM from where the cash has been stolen.

According to the resolution on initiation of criminal case, on the night of September 30, 2009, unidentified persons intruded into the service room at one of the stores in St. Petersburg, broke the ATM and stole the cash from it.

The damaged ATM was insured by Ingosstrakh under a property insurance policy. The total loss, including stolen cash, amounted to 4.4 million rubles.

The number of cases when ATMs are damaged or broken and the cash is stolen from them has recently increased while some cases were robberies. This happens despite such security measures as centralized alarm systems connected to the external guard office, CCTV systems, or the presence of security guards.

The aggregate amount of insurance indemnity paid out by Ingosstrakh for such losses has already reached about 21 million rubles in 2009. As compared to the last year, the number and amount of such losses has increased more than twofold.
