OREANDA-NEWS. January 13, 2010. Sibirtelecom has completed a large-scale project for upgrading the equipment of the urban telephone network in the city of Biysk (Altai Krai), which made it possible to switch citizens to the state-of-the-art digital telephone exchanges.

This event became unique for the second biggest city in the Krai that celebrated its 300th foundation anniversary in the expiring year.  During the project implementation in Biysk, 29 modern digital stations were installed in special block containers, which made it possible to shorten the “last mile” extension to the subscriber; for comparison, in Barnaul there are 8 such stations and in Rubtsovsk, 14. The replacement of analog stations for digital automatic exchanges will allow improving the quality of communication services considerably and expanding the range of services, including high-speed Internet.

"For two years when this project was implemented, the investment volume of the Company exceeded 150 mln rubles," said Yury Terentyev, Director of Altai Branch of Sibirtelecom. "Due to upgrading, the growth in the numbering capacity amounted to about 77 thousand numbers. The total installed numbering capacity in Biysk raised to 77 thousand numbers. The number of ports of a broad-band Internet access exceeded 5,000. We hope that the citizens will evaluate our efforts on their merits.”

Also the introduction of new exchanges made it possible to remove 5,080 paired phone numbers and provided a wider opportunity of using a broad-band Internet access (Webstream) and interactive digital television (TVist).   After having been switched to digital exchanges, subscribers are provided with the additional types of services (forwarding of incoming calls, a “do not disturb” mode, conference connection, short dialing of a number, etc.), a service of automatic call identification if a telephone set has a function of automatic number identification,  and other modern services.

The total number of subscribers in Biysk that were switched from analog to modern digital automatic exchanges is 24 thousand.
